Setting up your first NG Firewall: What you need to know

Overview

You've just ordered your NG Firewall from us and want to know what else you may need or what you need to do once you receive your appliance.

What you'll need

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Monitor
  • HDMI cable
IMPORTANT Do not use any adapters or KVM switches when connecting. This can cause issues.
  • Ethernet cable(s)

Connect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the NG Firewall.

Connect the NG Firewall to your upstream device using the WAN Ethernet port and cable. When you are in the Setup Wizard the icon next to the interface will turn green: make sure it is plugged into the 'External' interface. If not, you can move the cable around so it shows the connected port correctly.

During the setup, make sure the option for "Connect to ETM Dashboard" is selected for the rest of this guide.

If you purchased an NG Firewall appliance, the software will come pre-installed on your device so you don't need to worry about installation. If you are using your own hardware platform, then please refer to our installation guide which will also walk you through the Setup Wizard.

Free trial

Each new installation of NG Firewall comes with a free 30-day trial so you can experiment with full functionality before you deploy it or make decisions around purchasing your license.

ETM Dashboard

During the Setup Wizard, you will log into your ETM Dashboard account. Once logged in, you will provide some details about the device and can apply your subscription to the device. Once your device is associated to your ETM Dashboard account, you should be able to access it remotely from the Appliances tab in the blue bar at the top of the screen. Click the appliance in question to go to its specific page, then click the Remote Access button.
